Boaventura honoured by the IAB with the Luiz Gama Medal

The Instituto dos Advogados Brasileiros (IAB) has paid tribute to Portuguese sociologist and jurist Boaventura de Sousa Santos, awarding him the Medalha Luiz Gama, a distinction reserved for figures who have made a mark in the defence of human rights and social justice.

Boaventura, recognised worldwide for his work on the epistemologies of the South, the democratisation of knowledge and the fight against inequality, was celebrated at a special ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, surrounded by colleagues, academics and representatives of the IAB. His intellectual career and his commitment to Latin American social movements make him an essential reference for understanding the contemporary challenges of law and citizenship.
