DAKAR INTERNATIONAL SEMINARTOPICS AND PERSPECTIVES OF THE DEBATE

DAKAR INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

TOPICS AND PERSPECTIVES OF THE DEBATE

January 13-17, 2025

UCAD Dakar – Senegal

The international seminar in Dakar from 13 to 17 January 2025 aims to discuss the Epistemologies of the South in Senegalese territory. They participate in a prudent transformation of science's criteria of truth by resonating with the gaps between the different epistemologies and a permanent dialogue between knowledge, knowledge, and experiences built from the ecologies of knowledge. The central concern of the seminar is to welcome the epistemological diversity of the world, the immense variety of knowledge, scientific, vernacular, ancestral, original, religious, profane, peasant, indigenous, feminist, ways of inhabiting the earth... If the Epistemologies of the South refer to an epistemic south rather than a geographical south, the seminar will try to build on the interknowledge and interintelligibility in the French language of this knowledge, knowledge and experience, without neglecting local languages and their translations.

The seminar aims to promote the mutual enrichment of different knowledge policies through the recognition, resonance, hybridization and creolization of knowledge through processes of combination of co-presences and reciprocal transformation of knowledge ecologies.

The seminar is deliberately inscribed in a multidisciplinary and multicultural approach and will bring together various fields of knowledge: anthropology, sociology, philosophy, history, law, educational sciences, political ecology, aesthetics, medicine.

The Dakar seminar of 2025 is the result of a co-construction of research, publication and training resulting from multiple activities during the last decade with UCAD in Dakar, within the framework of a large international and multidisciplinary research network within LUCI (The International Cooperative University; https://luci.univ-paris8.fr/ of the UMR CNRS 7533 LADYSS), based on the pioneering work of Southern Epistemologies carried out at the University of Coimbra in Portugal by Boaventura De Sousa Santos and his team.
